Welcome to HeArtfull Creative – my new blog and website! My name is Cynthia, Owner and Creative Director. Here, I share creative projects that I have completed or are currently underway, as well as any other works or events.
My creative work embodies transcendence through alchemy, transforming pain into something tangible and potentially beautiful. This is the key to a heart-full life for me. When I am unsure how to express my deep thoughts or inner conflicts, the clay, the paint, the wood, and my hands help me find a way. So I take pride in the sawdust, dirt, bruises and scars I collect. They are the souvenirs of the healing work that helps me work through depression, loss, paralyzing anxiety, and trauma. My work helps me find my voice again after the noise and inhumanity of the world overwhelms me. They help me find my way back to myself.
I currently live in Edmonton, Alberta, though I have explored many less-travelled paths, sometimes forging my own. I have had two successful careers in public service, as an educator, a leader, a leadership coach, an instructional designer, a mediator, and a facilitator. My natural curiosity is evident in the different university and professional development courses I have taken, from international relations, to English and Russian literature and theatre, to art education and art history. I’m an expert marksman, a singer, a wilderness survival instructor, and a process improvement consultant. I hold over a dozen certifications relating to human development, coaching, positive psychology, conflict resolution, and emotional intelligence. A former boss once said I was like a sponge that absorbs knowledge and insight, and that resonated with me. I used to think all of the twists in my path were random and embarrassing evidence of an unfocused life, but I was actually following the values that my gut, my heart, and my head kept sacred when I made each of those choices. I don’t tolerate being discontented for too long so I am always looking to broaden my options and adapt. Life is too short to be unhappy.
Now that I’m in my 50s, I don’t want to wait any longer to live the life I’ve envisioned. I need a creative outlet for my overall well-being, and I have spent the last few years regaining my physical, mental, and spiritual health while completing several household projects. It feels great to finally make progress on things I didn’t have time for before—and to utilize my creative gifts to bring my visions to life. They also turned my home into a place I really love. My sanctuary. My safe place. My own magical world.

Here I am with my trusted advisor, Leia, in my studio!
So I left my steady yet unstable job in higher education to finally make my dream of a sculpture business come true. Now feels like the right time! Having my own business will give me lots of flexibility to leverage all of my gifts for the greater good. I was always drawn to the arts. As a kid, I was always playing in the mud, much to my mother’s chagrin. So it seems inevitable that I should play with clay as an artist! There is something so magical about making something new from the raw materials that nature gives us, and expressing something unique and human through it.
This site is the documentary of my journey and what I am learning along the way. Explore some of my posted projects! I hope that you are inspired to beautify your world and leave your creative mark! If you are in the Edmonton area and want to bring me onto one of your creative projects, let’s chat!
